UAE creates 'pioneering model' for worker protections

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Human Resources and Nationalisation (MOHRE) announced on February 12 that the 2025 labour market social security system has achieved significant results in both protecting workers' financial rights and raising awareness. Dalal Al-Shehhi, Acting Undersecretary for Labour Protection, stressed that this is the result of a comprehensive strategy that focuses on creating a safe and sustainable working environment and achieving a fair balance with employers.
The unemployment insurance scheme has registered 90% of eligible workers and has paid out more than AED 350 million (approximately JPY 14 billion) in compensation since the scheme's launch in 2024. Awareness-raising activities, available in 17 languages, have seen 100% of eligible workers complete mandatory guidance and specialized programs have reached more than 3 million people annually.
In addition, the compliance rate for heat countermeasures policies has reached 99%, more than 1 rest areas for delivery workers have been established, and more than 2,700 companies have registered under the worker housing system, providing approximately 190 million people with a safe and high-quality living environment.
