According to a report by Reuters on January 16, 2026, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the electric "flying taxi" developed by U.S.-based Joby Aviation is expected to commence commercial operations in Dubai later this year.

Joby conducted the first test flight of its fully electric air taxi in Dubai in June 2025, marking a significant milestone for the emirate as it seeks to integrate the technology into its existing transportation network. The company's flagship electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, developed at its California headquarters, can reach a top speed of 320 km/h and travel up to 160 km on a single charge. The aircraft produces zero emissions during operation and features quiet performance suitable for commercial use in densely populated urban areas.

In early 2024, Joby signed an agreement with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority securing exclusive rights to operate air taxis in Dubai for the next six years.
