Dubai Metro to expand Burj Khalifa Station

On January 15, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) signed an agreement with Emaar Properties to expand the Dubai Metro's Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station.
According to the plan, the station's total floor area will be expanded from the current 6,700 square meters to 8,500 square meters. The station will also have improved entrances and exits, footbridges, and more escalators and elevators. The number of ticket gates will also be increased, and the entrance and exit routes will be completely separated to allow for smoother movement.
With this expansion, the hourly processing capacity will increase by approximately 65% from the current 7,250 people to 12,320 people, and the maximum daily capacity is expected to reach 220,000 people.
Since its opening in 2010, the number of passengers at the station has been steadily increasing, reaching approximately 1,057 million in 2024 and approximately 1,100 million in 2025. Extreme congestion has been an issue, especially during New Year's Eve countdown events and public holidays.
